Making a positive impact

We believe that bandwidth changes everything, and we continue to develop our networks in support of our customers and to serve Europe’s future bandwidth needs. In doing this, we are also focused on making a positive impact on society and our world.

Our sustainability report

Our Sustainability Reports provide insight into our ESG journey to date. The 2022 Report offers an overview of implemented activities driving sustainability and establishing a foundation for sustainable practices across our business.

The 2023 Report delves deeper into specific initiatives aimed at decarbonising operations and reducing our carbon footprint while supporting stakeholders.

We help businesses measure their emissions to meet ESG and sustainability goals.

To support our customers in achieving their ESG and decarbonisation goals, we’ve developed innovative, data-driven tools. These tools offer emissions reporting on network construction projects and individual services.

The euNetworks Network Construction Carbon Tool

This tool assesses carbon emissions from network construction projects, offering transparency around greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for proposed new builds. It enables customers to grasp and accurately report the environmental impact of such projects, empowering adjustments to reduce their carbon footprint.

The euNetworks Carbon by Service Tool

This tool calculates the carbon emissions associated with each euNetworks service. It allows customers to report on the environmental impacts of their network services, especially Scope 3 emissions — those from the upstream or downstream supply chain — specifically the network connections owned and managed by euNetworks.

Our Environmental, Social and Governance & Sustainability approach

ESG and sustainability considerations

Sustainability and ESG are fundamental to our business and operational commitments. We prioritise delivering high-quality solutions while operating sustainably. Our decarbonisation roadmap sets rigorous targets to reduce our carbon footprint. We have set 1.5⁰C aligned science-based targets across Scopes 1,2 and 3, which have been validated by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). We have also committed to Net Zero by 2040.

Our roadmap involves measuring environmental and social key performance indicators (KPIs), forming the basis of our Sustainability Linked Loan. We align with established frameworks such as the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), modelling our reporting on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Stakeholders

For our ESG and Sustainability considerations, our key stakeholders include:

  • Regulators: We operate in compliance with various regulations covering environments, health, safety, and data protection.
  • Customers: Our goal is to provide high-quality services with a reduced carbon footprint to support customers in reaching their sustainability targets.
  • Suppliers: We collaborate with suppliers to explore alternative methods of decarbonising operations while ensuring high quality service delivery.
  • Employees: We treat our employees with utmost respect and integrity.
  • Lenders and Investors: Our commitment to sustainability has attracted significant interest from lenders and investors, securing the Sustainability Linked Loan for investments in critical bandwidth infrastructure.
  • Local Communities: We actively participate in various initiatives to contribute to our local communities, aiming to create a better world to live in.
  • Environment: Our network construction developments and environmental partnerships help reduce our environmental impact, preserve the biodiversity around our network and contribute to initiatives that promote environmental stewardship.

Key areas

Our ESG efforts, encompassing improvement focus, initiatives, projects, assessments, and analyses, centre on four areas where our business has influence:

  • Planet: Mitigating environmental impacts across land, sea, and air in our decision-making processes. This includes reducing carbon emissions, embracing renewable energy, and operating within a circular economy.
  • People: Developing a workforce that reflects the world we live in. Helping our people achieve their potential. Managing the risks to anyone affected by our operations.
  • Prosperity: Empowering customers to make sustainable choices and delivering sustainable returns to investors.
  • Partnerships: Creating shared value in the communities where we operate.
IPC is committed to sustainability, including ensuring that IPC’s carrier network adopts a responsible attitude. euNetworks’ program and their carbon by service tool demonstrate a commitment to actively assessing and reducing carbon emissions. Their demonstration of the tool was clear. Their commitment to continuous improvement of the tool is valuable, and only serves to strengthen the already established relationship between our respective organisations.

Biodiversity

At euNetworks, preserving biodiversity around our network is a priority. We carefully design routes considering the ecological impact of construction, whether on land, in forestry areas, or the sea. Partnering with various European charities, we support environmental preservation initiatives, fostering vital habitats for diverse species.

Host in Ireland

To elevate and uphold the ecological well-being of Ireland, euNetworks has actively supported Host in Ireland’s initiative ‘DC for Bees’. By planting over 2000 fruit orchards across the country, we contribute to creating vital green spaces in urban areas, fostering crucial habitats for diverse species.

We joined 300 global businesses and are committed to Net Zero carbon by 2040

euNetworks is a proud signatory to the Climate Pledge, a commitment to achieve net zero carbon by 2040. This initiative forms a cross-sector community dedicated to addressing the climate crisis and decarbonising the economy. The Climate Pledge calls for regular greenhouse gas emissions reporting and the implementation of decarbonisation strategies in line with the Paris Agreement, culminating in achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040.

We are committed to the three core areas of the Climate Pledge

  • Measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 on a regular basis.
  • Implementation of decarbonisation strategies in line with the Paris Agreement, via real business changes and innovation. This includes improvements in efficiency, renewable energy procurement, alternative materials and other carbon emission reduction initiatives.
  • Neutralising the remainder emissions with additional and quantifiable offsets to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
